Statistics haven't been fun since the loss of communication genius Hans Rosling. He had the ability to make bigger statistics understandable. In Sweden, population data is plentiful and free at SCB so why not find out where we live and show it in a nice way? The number of persons living in a specific location forms a point in a point cloud, which are placed on a sphere. These points are then illuminated.
Data comes from SCB and NASA, these are converted to csv format which allows Blender to import them. The math involves placing longitude and latitude in a xyz-space.
To me this is a starting point which can be taken in lots of different directions by combining population with location, for instance showing public transportation in cities, climate migration or election results.
